Dermal fillers, or soft tissue fillers, are substances designed to be injected beneath the surface of the skin to add volume and fullness.
Dermal fillers are usually made up of Hyaluronic acid, which is found in some fluids and tissues in the body that add plumpness to the skin. This is combined with other “ingredients” that all aid in filling & plumping the skin
The time they take to work, as well as how long they last, also vary. Some fillers last 6 months, while others last up to 2 years or longer, depending where on the face they are used
Different types of dermal fillers are designed to treat varying signs of aging. Depending on the filler used, they can plump up thinning lips, used to fill the hollows under eyes, enhance cheeks, jawline etc
They can also be used to fill static wrinkles including those around the mouth and along the cheeks. These wrinkles are usually a result of a loss of collagen and elasticity in the skin.
As with any procedure, there are always risks involved. Good hygiene & due diligence are a must , as well as learning the correct methods to inject, and how to correct if anything goes wrong. Aspiration is an absolute must when injecting fillers, and should never be skipped, no matter how confident you are. One very important thing to remember is to never be tempted to use filler anywhere on the face or body if you do not have hyaluronidase / Liporase on hand to dissolve should anything go wrong , & to know exactly how to mix it & administer should it be needed
